URL Encode & Decode

Percent-encode text for URLs, decode encoded URLs, and see a URL's parts. Nothing is uploaded.

What this does

This tool percent-encodes text so it can be used safely in a web address, and decodes encoded addresses back into readable text. Encode a single value, like a search term or redirect link, or a whole URL while keeping its slashes and question mark. Unicode text such as accents, Hebrew and emoji is encoded as UTF-8. Any full URL is also broken down into its scheme, host, path, query parameters and fragment.

How to use it

  1. Choose Encode or Decode, and what you are encoding.
  2. Paste the text or URL.
  3. Copy the result, and check the URL parts table below.

FAQ

When should I encode a whole URL vs a value?

Encode a value, like a search term or a link passed inside another link, so its &, = and / don't break the URL. Encode a whole URL only to fix spaces or non-English characters while keeping its structure.

Why does + turn into a space?

HTML forms send spaces as +. Tick "+ means space" when decoding form data or query strings that come from a form.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. Encoding and decoding happen in your browser.
