What this does
This reaction speed test measures how quickly you respond to something you see. The box turns red, then after a random wait it flashes green, and you react as fast as you can with a click, a tap or any key. After five rounds you get your average and best time in milliseconds, a rating, and a personal best saved on your device for each kind of input.
How to play
- Click the box or press any key to start.
- Wait while it's red. Reacting too soon doesn't count, so you'll repeat the round.
- When it turns green, click, tap or press a key as fast as you can. Press Esc to start over.
FAQ
What is a good reaction time?
Most people react to a visual signal in about 250 to 300 milliseconds. Under 200 ms is excellent, and trained gamers and athletes are often around 150 to 200 ms.
Is a keyboard faster than a mouse?
Often slightly, because a key press is a smaller movement than a click, but it depends on you and your hardware. The test keeps a separate best score for mouse, touch and keyboard so you can compare.
Does my screen affect the result?
Yes, a little. Your screen, mouse and keyboard add a few milliseconds each. A fast-refresh gaming monitor and a wired mouse or keyboard give the quickest results.
