What this test does
This free online mic and camera test shows a live preview of your webcam with its real resolution and frame rate, and a live level meter and waveform for your microphone. You can take a snapshot or record a 5-second clip and play it back to hear exactly how you sound. Everything runs in your browser.
How to use it
- Press Start camera or Start microphone.
- Allow access when your browser asks.
- If you have more than one device, pick it from the list.
- Speak and watch the meter move, or record a clip and play it back.
- Press Stop when you're done to turn the camera and mic off.
FAQ
Is my video or audio uploaded?
No. The test runs entirely in your browser. Video, audio, snapshots and recordings never leave your device.
Why does it say permission was blocked?
You or your browser denied access earlier. Click the camera or lock icon in the address bar, allow the camera and microphone, then press Start again. On Windows and macOS, also check that the browser is allowed to use them in the system privacy settings.
Why is my camera "in use" or showing a black screen?
Another app such as Zoom, Teams or Skype may be holding the camera. Close it and try again. Some laptops also have a physical camera switch or a privacy shutter.
Why is my video mirrored?
The preview is mirrored by default, like a mirror, because that feels natural. Other people on a video call see you unmirrored. Untick "Mirror" to see that view.
