Base64 Encode & Decode

Encode text or a file to Base64, or decode Base64 back to text or a file. Nothing is uploaded.

What this does

This tool converts text to Base64 and back, and turns any file, such as an image or PDF, into Base64 for embedding in HTML, CSS, JSON or emails. Text is encoded as UTF-8, so accents, Hebrew, Chinese and emoji survive the round trip. It accepts standard and URL-safe Base64, with or without padding. Decoded binary data, like an image, can be downloaded as a file.

How to use it

  1. Choose Encode or Decode.
  2. Type or paste text, or open a file to encode it.
  3. Copy or download the result.

FAQ

Is Base64 encryption?

No. Base64 only changes how data is written so it can travel through text-only channels. Anyone can decode it, so never use it to hide passwords.

What is URL-safe Base64?

A variant that uses - and _ instead of + and /, and usually drops the = padding, so it can sit in web addresses and file names. JWT tokens use it.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Files are read and encoded by your browser and never leave your device.
